One of the greatest thrills that you can offer a child is the opportunity to visit the beach or better still, camp out at a beach. It is just
simply thrilling to imagine gazing up at the skies at night with just the insects and rodents for company. The sound of the stereo is notably absent and is replaced with the natural sound of waves crashing on the beach or gently lapping the shores. It is truly beautiful. I cannot imagine a child who wouldn’t jump at the chance of having such an outing. Another reason why you may want to try out such an outing is because the alternative of booking a hotel room is more expensive. We’ll take a look at some of the spots where you can have such a fun time with your child and entire family.
- San Elijo State Beach: This beautiful beach is located in Northern San Diego County. You can get a clear and vantage view of the Pacific Ocean from most parts of the camping spots. When you walk down from the camp ground, there are wooden staircases that take you directly to the beach. During the day, you have an almost endless list of activities that your child can engage in apart from swimming and surfing.
- Jalama Beach County Park: Have you ever heard of the famous Jalama burger? It is served by the equally famous Jalama Beach Store and Restaurant located at the beach. If you decide to visit this beach during the off-season, chances are that you’ll be virtually alone and have the entire beach to yourself. Its proximity to the Vandenberg Airforce Base provides you with the opportunity to see a satellite being launched into space…if you are lucky. However, satellite or not, one view you are sure to enjoy is the Pacific Ocean from the camping grounds. If you want to show your child what an unspoiled and natural beach is, then you cannot go wrong with Jalama Beach County Park.
- McGrath State Beach: A nature preserve is located close to McGrath State Beach, home to about 245 recorded bird species at least for part of the year. The beach itself is very ideal for strolling and sun-watching whether at dawn or dusk. It is truly beautiful and will be well enjoyed by a family that loves being close to nature. You are advised to watch those riptides and strong currents though.
- Carpinteria State Beach: Reputed to be the ‘safest beach in the world’ by the locals, this beach is sited in an urban setting… so you can prepare your mind for hearing a train zapping past at night. The facilities at the camp grounds are very decent and if you visit during the winter period, you are guaranteed a lot of privacy.
- Leo Carrillo State Park: This beach has quite a lot of coves and other exciting places that your child will love to explore. It also provides opportunities for hiking into the Santa Monica Mountains trails. It is certainly a thrill for a child.
